Somewhere along the way
The fire inside of me
Consumed itself
Burned out and cooled
These things left behind
Nothing but cinder
Dust and gritty ash
Certainly nothing worth
Piecing back together
The only thing left
Is an empty shell
Hollow
Except for the echoes
Of what used to be

I’ve walked
Through the sands
Of Egypt
At the base
Of the great pyramids
And still
I’m no closer
To understanding
I’ve knelt
At the temple
Of Delphi
And still
I don’t understand
And I don’t know
If there are no answers
Or we simply
Haven’t figured out
What the questions
Really are
